Memorial Day to Labor Day- stands to be the deadliest days for teen drivers across the country. As the summer months kick off and thousands of first time drivers hit the pavement, the likelihood of being involved in an automotive accident double.

Summer vacation is filled with cars full of teens, loud music, dancing, texting and driving and of course drinking. These factors create a recipe for disaster, according to a study by the FIA foundation, twice as many teens die on the roads during summer months compared to other times of the year.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens worldwide and the summer months with a world of distraction seems to play a key role behind the statistics.

Poor teenage driving habits stem back to their need for independence, stubbornness and lack of experience on the roads. According to a survey by Allstate Insurance, 45 percent of teens reported drinking while driving or riding with someone who had been drinking. Another 64 percent said they often text while driving.

How to stay safe

Remain educated on the dangers of driving. The amount of experience driving before you receive your license varies from state to state. If you as a new driver feel uncomfortable behind the wheel, take the extra driving time with an experienced driver.

Night time driving is the most dangerous for teens with distractions at its highest and visibility at its lowest. Take the extra time to gain nighttime experience before you pile in three of your closest friends and head down the highway.

Driving alone or reducing the number of passengers in your vehicles can also reduce the likelihood of you being involved in an accident. The more passengers in the vehicle, the more distractions there are.
