Many automotive enthusiasts fear what effect ‘going green’ will have on motor sports. They can rest assured that even with completely electric vehicles, some high speed fun can still be had.
John Metric, a University of Texas graduate, turned his ’84 Pontiac Fiero into an electric drag racer. Three years of blood, sweat and tears, and 175lbs of lithium-ion batteries later, Mr. Metric built himself an 862 hp electric monster.
Metric isn’t the only one. Electric motor sports are cropping up all over. Including the TTXGP, the world’s first zero emissions electric grand prix! The e-grandprix, as it is termed, is in its fourth year and is world wide. In fact, European championship races are May 20th.
There are a wealth of ‘green’ motors ports on the rise, and race fans certainly shouldn’t fear the loss of gas based racers. If Mr. Metric can build an 862 hp Pontiac Fiero, imagine the strides Porsche, BMW, and other popular racing brands are making.
We may inevitably wave good by to gasoline powered motor sports, but racing surely isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
