Kia. The Race Machine?

When people think Kia it is generally associated with ‘affordable’. It may come as quite a shock to learn that Kia has been participating in motor sports for two years. In fact, Kia won an overall Grand AM in 2011.

This year Kia is off to a great start with a second place victory at the BMW performance 200 in Daytona. Being up against stiff competition ranging from BMW to Porsche, Kia is continuing to shine as a contender.

Kia Motors has teamed up with Kinetic Motorsports and the duo has been setting a very high bar for themselves. After bringing home some well earned victories the pair has unveiled the B-spec Rio 5 at SEMA show and entered showroom stock racing.

Their drivers are highly decorated as well. Such as Nic Jonsson, who started his professional driving career in 1989, and has not left a top ten finishing list yet. Last year at the Grand-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Street Tuner Driver championship Jonsson took first place behind the wheel of an Infinity Audio Kia Forte Koupe.

In a couple short years Kia has really made a name for themselves in motor sports. If they keep this momentum going we may hear Kia and think Race Car.
