At the scene of an accident:

  2. Collect the information for those involved, such as license plate numbers, insurance information, VIN number, and driver’s license information. This information can be useful when the other party involved is at fault and their insurance may cover your damage, rather then reporting the claim under your own insurance with risk of premiums going up.
  3. Take pictures. Pictures are worth a thousands words and when people are involved in an accident there are a lot of words to be spoken.
  4. Call the police. Having a police officer at the scene can be helpful for a third point of reference for the insurance companies. They commonly document the scene of the crime and will help you receive medical attention or any further assistance you may need.

Once you have received medical attention and gone to a safe location, you must call your insurance provider and report the accident. It is more then likely your insurance provider will require a written statement and any associated bills to reimburse you, if necessary.
